New guidance released on preparing court bundles for litigants in person in family proceedings

The Office of the President of the Family Division has published new guidance on preparing court bundles for litigants in person in family proceedings.

The guidance accompanies practice direction 27A – Family Proceedings: Court Bundles, which came into effect on Monday, and applies to court cases in England and Wales which are being heard in the Family Court or the Family Division of the High Court.

“As set out at paragraph 1.1 of PD27A, this practice direction must be applied in order to achieve consistency across England and Wales in the family court and the Family Division of the High Court in the preparation and filing of court bundles,” the guidance explains.

It supersedes the “Guidance on E-Bundles for use in the Family Court and Family Division” (21 December 2021). The “General guidance on electronic court bundles” (November 29, 2021) no longer applies in the context of family proceedings.

The guidance explains what a court bundle is, what documents are usually included, how they should be organised, when litigants in person need to prepare a bundle in family proceedings, and what happens if documents are late or missing.

It also includes examples of annexes, and resources for further help and advice.
