Lawyer comments on Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas divorce

Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner and pop star Joe Jonas reached a divorce settlement, agreeing to let their children split their time between the UK and the US.

Rosalyn Jacobs, Associate Solicitors at Ellisons Solicitors, has given her thoughts on the couple’s agreement, considering the implications of children splitting their time between the UK and US.

Rosalyn Jacobs said:

“Even in the world of celebrity, decisions affecting children after a couple have separated can become a thorny issue. Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner had to work through where their two children would live, as one parent wanted to live with them in the UK and the other in the US. The couple are believed to have reached a temporary agreement which will allow the children to split their time between the US and the UK.

Reaching an agreement that works for everyone can be difficult and full of challenges. However, a solution can be found that is in the best interests of the family and in particular, the children. In the UK, the Court considers the welfare of the children to be the paramount consideration and this will always form the basis of any agreement.

Here at Ellisons, we work with international lawyers from the Alliott Global Alliance who we can call on to assist our clients if there is an international perspective where their expertise would be beneficial. We also promote parents working together to find a resolution. When parents are able do this, it can be more meaningful and workable for all involved. The children will also benefit when the parents are amicable and keep their decisions child focussed.”
