Femicide report shows that at least 147 women were killed by 144 men in the UK

The latest Femicide census has shown that 147 women were killed by 144 men in 2021 when the study was done. 

The findings, released this year, have shown that 78 (58 per cent) women were killed by a current of former intimate partner, with a two per cent drop since 2009 in instances.

35 women (24 per cent) of those killed were aged 66 and over, this is higher than the average of 14 per cent of women killed since 2009 over the age of 66.

Just over half of the women killed were taking steps to leave their intimate partner or had already left the relationship.

A total of 108 women, amounting to 78 per cent, were killed in their own home, a further eight women were killed in a house where ownership was not disclosed and five women were killed in the home of the preparator I most cases(72 per cent) men used one method of violence to kill.

In their findings the Femicide Census saw that five men were subject to indefinite hospital orders or detained under the mental health act and that  eighty-eight men (62%) were known to have histories of violence against women and/or were subject to monitoring or restrictions by a statutory agency at the time they killed a woman.

122 men (85% of all killers, 97% of those men charged) were charged with murder, double or multiple murder. Read the full report here.
