Enable Law, the specialist mental capacity, personal injury, and medical negligence law firm, has strengthened its team with the appointment of education law expert Mrs Rukhsana Koser as a Legal Director.
Rukhsana joins Enable Law from Gloucester-headquartered Langley Wellington Solicitors where, as a partner, she successfully headed up the firm’s Education Lawyers team.
She specialises in Special Educational Needs (SEN) law and has a distinguished and successful record in SEND Tribunal proceedings. Special education needs (SEN) law solicitors can provide significant support to family law practitioners by offering expertise in areas that overlap between family law and education law.
SEN law solicitors can help family law practitioners navigate the complexities of securing Educational Health Care Plans (EHCPs) for children, ensuring their clients understand the process and have the necessary support to access resources. They can handle appeals to the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Tribunal, which might arise when a child’s educational needs are not being met—an issue that often affects custody arrangements and parenting plans.
When parents disagree on a child’s school placement or type of education, SEN solicitors can mediate or advocate for the child’s educational needs in coordination with family law practitioners. SEN solicitors can also assist in securing cooperation between schools, local authorities, and health services, which is particularly beneficial in cases involving complex family dynamics or disputes.
They can ensure that families are fully informed about their legal rights to support services, reducing the burden on family law solicitors to provide this specialised advice
Rukhsana’s expertise includes advising on Education, Health, and Care Plans, as well as handling complex appeals to the SEND Tribunal involving education, health and social care needs and provision for children and young people with significant needs, disability discrimination in school and safeguarding within the education sector. Commenting on her appointment, Rukhsana, who will be based in Enable Law’s Bristol office, said:
