SRA close firm over ‘suspected dishonesty’

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) moved to close North Yorkshire Law after ‘suspected dishonesty’ on the part of the managing partner, last week (16th February 2021).

The firm specialised in multiple aspects of law, including family law, conveyancing and wills and probate.

The SRA closure decision notice revealed the regulator had intervened in the firm because it was satisfied that there was reason to ‘suspect dishonest on the part of Mr Richard Charles Boyd in connection with the firm’s business’ and that ‘one of more of the terms of the firm’s licence has not complied with‘.

A spokesman for the SRA said:

“The grounds of intervention are suspected dishonesty on the part of Mr Boyd. The practising certificate of Mr Boyd has been automatically suspended, so he cannot practice as a solicitor.”

A notice on the firm’s website reads:

“On 16 February 2021, the Solicitors Regulation Authority intervened into North Yorkshire Law. The firm is now closed.

“All practice papers, files and monies held by the firm at the date of intervention are now in the possession of the Solicitors Regulation Authority.”

The notice then goes on to point to the new point of contact at Gordons LLP.
