SRA Chair reappointed for three-year term

Anna Bradley has been reappointed as the Chair of the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Board for a second three-year term.

Anna will be the SRA Chair until December 2024, having originally taken up the post in January 2019. Her reappointment was confirmed by an independent panel chaired by Elizabeth Filkin CBE.

During her tenure as Chair, the SRA has delivered a range of major reforms including its new Standards and Regulations and the SRA Transparency Rules, with the Solicitors Qualifying Examination due to go live later this year. In a further change – providing clarity for the users of legal services and the profession – the SRA will become a distinct legal entity within the wider Law Society Group.

It has also set out its 2020/23 Corporate Strategy, with objectives focusing on setting and maintaining high professional standards, supporting the adoption of legal technology and innovation, and understanding emerging opportunities and challenges for the users of legal services and the legal sector. The SRA is currently consulting on its 2021/22 Business Plan as part of this strategy.

Anna Bradley, SRA Chair, said:

“I am delighted to be reappointed as Chair at what is an important time for the sector, not least as we consider the longer-term implications of the Covid-19 pandemic and the UK exit from the EU.

“The SRA has made good progress in delivering an ambitious reform programme, including implementing the new Standards and Regulations and rolling out the Solicitors Qualifying Examination, which marks a step-change in how people join the profession. Looking ahead, our new strategy embraces the potential that innovation and technology has to help people access the legal services they need.

“I am very much looking forward to what the next few years brings for consumers of legal services, the profession, and of course the SRA itself.”

Further information on the Board and its work can be found on the SRA website.
