The latest Today’s Family Lawyer podcast offers a light-hearted distraction from the day-to-day grind of life in family law with a trip on Santa’s sleigh to he upcoming Festive Family Law Conference, hosted at The Grand Hotel in Eastbourne on the 3rd and 4th of December.

The brainchild of barrister Gemma Lindfield, ably assisted by Chris Bryden at 4KBW, the conference offers a multidisciplinary blend of continuous competence learning with playful, boundary-breaking wellness interventions.

Chair yoga, structured dance breaks, and a highly anticipated winter sea dash are amongst plans for the event which returns for a second instalment after the success of year one.

Alongside the festivities the content of the conference offers serious insight into family law in 2026 and beyond with presenters including the chair of the Beverly Hills Bar Association and a constitutional judge from Serbia; offering both domestic and cross-border education.

Lindfield and Bryden both hope the nature of the event serves to continue efforts to replace the historically adversarial, burnout-heavy legal landscape with a highly collaborative, community-driven approach to professional practice.

“Grandstanding is no longer an effective strategy” says Bryden. Instead, modern family practice requires an acute understanding of the massive legal intersections across property, trusts, crime, and immigration; alongside the changing language and relationships between barristers, and family law practitioners.

It is one of the key messages of the event with professionals encouraged to book their tickets before elves go rogue!
