Scottish private equity firm Aliter Capital has completed its third law firm acquisition in two years, in a move which will see the creation of a new legal group with a headcount of 150 and a combined revenue of £23 million.
Full-service firm Orwins will be the new brand for Manchester-based BBS Law, acquired by Aliter Capital in October 2024, London-based Carter Bond (acquired August 2025) and now Clarkslegal, a nine-partner Reading practice with a team of 40. The acquisition of Clarkslegal was completed last week and the firm will become part of the Orwins brand later this year.
Orwins, which is headquartered in Manchester, says the acquisition and rebrand mark significant steps in building a national law firm dedicated to providing a full range of legal services for ambitious and high-growth businesses and high net worth individuals. The group aims to at least double in size over the next two years, targeting revenues of over £50 million through organic growth and acquisition.
Dov Black, chief executive at Orwins, said: “From the outset, there was clear cultural alignment between our two firms. Clarkslegal has an entrepreneurial, client-focused ethos very similar to our own and a complementary client base. They also have an exceptionally strong, talented team which further enhances the breadth and depth of our service offer.”
On rebranding, Black added: “The launch of our new identity comes at a pivotal time for the business. We are totally enthused about the new branding, which reflects our core values and creates the ideal foundations for future growth.”
Monica Atwal, managing partner at Clarkslegal, said: “We are thrilled to be part of this exciting new chapter. BBS Law and Carter Bond, now united under Orwins, share a common ethos, culture and ambition with Clarkslegal. This investment will enable us to enhance the services we provide to our valued clients now and in the future, while giving our team a strong platform on which we can grow and thrive.”
Aliter Capital said it is working closely with the team at Orwins on several further investments this year, aiming to expand the firm’s regional coverage across the UK.
Greig Brown, partner at Aliter Capital, explained: “It’s been a hugely positive time for Orwins, with the completion of another important investment and the simultaneous launch of its exciting new brand. Both events are vital steps in our journey to create a market leading provider of legal services, with a truly national footprint.”
