London law firm introduces free fertility testing

Osbornes Law, a London-based firm, has launched free fertility testing for all staff as part of a new health benefits programme, making it the first law firm to offer such a service, as reported by The Law Society Gazette.

The initiative, which also extends to employees’ partners, was introduced by newly-appointed managing partner Jo Wescott.

The fertility testing, which can be conducted at home, is clinically validated and includes an online assessment that evaluates ovarian reserve or egg count. It also screens for up to 18 reproductive health conditions, including endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome. In addition to this, Osbornes Law is covering the cost of specialist consultations for women experiencing perimenopause and menopause.

Wescott, who became the firm’s first female managing partner last month, was inspired to introduce these benefits after witnessing close friends struggle with fertility issues. A mother of two herself, Wescott had her children in her mid-to-late 30s, a period considered “geriatric” in medical terms(gestation after the age of 35). While she did not face fertility challenges, she observed many friends and colleagues who were less fortunate. Wescott shared.

“Many people believe fertility issues won’t affect them, and when they do, it can be devastating, impacting relationships in profound ways. I’ve seen this both personally and professionally.”

She emphasised the importance of enabling colleagues to take proactive steps in managing their reproductive health, allowing them to identify potential issues early. Wescott added:

“As managing partner, supporting our employees—almost three-quarters of whom are women—is a priority. I want them to be happy and healthy at work, and this initiative is one way to help achieve that.”
