Government seeks consultation on regulations for supported accommodation provision

Survey aims to gain first-hand accounts of those involved in care system

The Department for Education (DfE) is inviting views on proposals for the new regulations for supported accommodation for looked after children and care leavers aged 16 and 17.

The consultation will be open to the public for six weeks. The consultation is aiming to garner views from providers of supported accommodation, local authorities, children’s social care workforce, relevant national public, private and charitable sector organisations, and care experienced young people. The views can be expressed via an online survey by the DfE.

This consultation invites views on:

  • The quality standards providers will adhere to
  • The management and administrative requirements on providers
  • Ofsted registration, inspection and enforcement and provider accountability

The survey will be open to submission until the 16th of January 2023, with the regulations coming into effect from spring 2023.

The online survey can be accessed here.
