Abuser sees sentenced increased

Abuser sees sentenced increased after case referred to Court of Appeal

A man has seen his prison sentence increased after the original sentence was found to be too lenient after an appeal.

Michael Jones was originally sentenced on the 6th June, 2022 to six years imprisonment for stabbing his partner.

Jones pinned his partner down and forced her to play a “truth-or-dare” game whilst threatening her, before eventually stabbing his partner in the stomach.

However, his case was referred to the Court of Appeal by Solicitor General, Edward Timpson CBE KC MP, under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme.

The court did find the sentence to be too lenient and increased the sentence on the 6th of October to seven years and six months imprisonment and an extended licence period of three years.

HM Solicitors General Michael Tomlinson MP said:

“Jones subjected his partner to unimaginable violence, which will have a lasting impact on the victim.

Increasing Jones’ sentence both better reflects the severity of this crime and sends a clear message that domestic abuse will be met with robust punishment.”
