A glimpse into our upcoming Inaugural Family Law Conference

A glimpse into our upcoming Inaugural Family Law Conference

We are thrilled to introduce another of the speakers at our Inaugural Family Law conference that is set to be held in Manchester on Wednesday 27th September 2023.

Alison Bull from Mills & Reeve LLP is an accredited family and civil/commercial mediator, child inclusive mediator, collaborative practitioner, family lawyer and children and financial arbitrator.

The topic she will be speaking about is “Divorce and the Dawn of ‘One Lawyer, One Couple'”. Elaborating on this, she said:

“I was very keen to offer our clients the opportunity to access a ‘one lawyer, two clients’ service. I have had the privilege of working with a committed working group of Resolution to help devise ‘Resolution Together’ (Resolution’s one lawyer two client service) and this experience helped us to develop our ‘separate well with one lawyer’ service early on (Legal separation advice from one lawyer | Mills & Reeve (mills-reeve.com)).

We have now acted for many couples in this way, with very positive feedback, and had several consent orders approved by the courts. We offer two main types of service – helping you to reach an agreement, and helping you to finalise your agreement.”

Alison stated that she is looking forward to discussing with other panel members the recommended steps to be taken before offering a one lawyer, two clients service, the pros and cons, how to help clients to make the choice about how to proceed, and to sharing some of the challenges from our experiences to date. She added:

“One of these challenges is how to help clients to decide whether mediation or a one lawyer service would be the best option for them.

I will also welcome any questions from the floor and so please do think about what you would like to ask us!”
