Former newsreader Huw Edwards has pleaded guilty in court to three counts of making indecent images of children.
Those offences are separate from newspaper allegations last year that he paid a young person for explicit photos. Huw had a prolific career in news and worked for the BBC as a newsreader anchoring current affairs and major events.
In 2020 Edwards engaged in a WhatsApp chat with a man called Alex Williams, who begins sending the ex newsreader explicit images.
Huw received 377 pictures and video clips over the next 16 months, including 41 of children-these were all sent by Mr Williams. The 41 indecent images included seven category A images, the most serious classification – two of which show abuse involving a child aged between about seven and nine.
The court heard how on 2 February 2021, Alex Williams enquired whether what he’s sending to the BBC star is too young, to which Mr Edwards responded by telling him not to send any underage images.
The final indecent image of children is a category A film featuring a young boy sent in August 2021. Alex Williams tells Mr Edwards the boy is quite young looking, and he has more illegal images. Edwards tells him not to send any illegal images.
