DWP publishes child maintenance guide

DWP publishes child maintenance guide

A guide on child maintenance has been published by the Department for Work and Pensions.

The new guide informs users how to create and manage a child maintenance arrangement, and also includes information about action that may be taken if a party does not pay, as well as how to contact the Child Maintenance Service.

The guide also explains the procedure for individuals who do not want their child’s other parent to contact them or their child, which may be used in cases where controlling behaviour or domestic abuse has been experienced by a party. Here the Child Maintenance Service can arrange child maintenance on a parent’s behalf to protect the location and personal information of the parties concerned.

Child maintenance payments in relation to benefits and tax are also addressed in the guide.

The guide may be accessed here.
