The Crown Prosecution Service has confirmed it will extend the current Universal and Enhanced Services pilot, offering all victims and survivors of domestic abuse a dedicated victim liaison officer.
As part of the government’s efforts to half violence against women and girls a national rollout of the Victim Transformation Programme, including an enhanced service for victims of domestic abuse has been confirmed by the CPS. The Universal and Enhanced Services, which offer the dedicated liaison officer, has been tested in pilot areas since 2023, and will now become the standard offer for victims in every part of England and Wales.
The Attorney General Ellie Reeves KC MP said she was “pleased” to announce the rollout, which would provide “better support from charge to trial.”
She continued: “For the first time all victims will be able to choose how the CPS contacts them, whether that’s over the phone, by email or by post. And victims can expect faster and better-quality correspondence too. When I say I want to put victims at the heart of the justice system I mean it.”
The Victim Transformation Programme was launched following issues identified with timeliness, quality and a lack of empathy at the CPS.
