Debate: Family Court hearings and greater press reporting

Winckworth Sherwood will be holding a debate: Greater Transparency Debate on 31st March 2022 on the president of the Family Division’s proposals to allow greater press reporting (and legal bloggers) of Family Court hearings in England and Wales.

Should greater transparency be the “new norm” in the Family Division? Is it really possible to balance greater confidence in the Family Court with the confidentiality of the families and children who have to turn to it for protection? Sir Andrew McFarlane’s report on Transparency in the Family Courts, published in October 2021 concluded that there should and that it could be.

Winckworth Sherwood’s Family Team are hosting a panel of speakers as they debate these questions further in the Great Transparency Debate. The event will have an update from the co-chair of the Transparency Implementation Group (“TIG”), Her Honour Judge Reardon and chaired by Sir Mathew Thorpe.
