Leading surrogacy campaigner joins International Family Law Group

A leading surrogacy lawyer has joined The International Family Law Group LLP (IFLG) as a Partner with a further Partnership announcement to be announced in the coming weeks. . 

Natalie Sutherland joins from boutique family practice Burgess Mee with her appointment described as an important expansion of IFLG’s modern families and fertility law practice. The firm already has expertise across domestic and international divorce and children law, with Sutherland’s appointment ‘strengthening the firm’s position as a market leader in international and cutting-edge family law.’

Sutherland is considered to eb at the fore of modern family law, with particular expertise in UK and international surrogacy, legal parentage, known donor and platonic co-parenting agreements, embryo storage, and posthumous conception. She has acted in cases such as SA v FA [2022], Re X (Catastrophic Injury: Collection and Storage of Sperm) [2022] and Re Z (Surrogacy: Step-parent Adoption) [2024] and is a Band 1-ranked practitioner for Children Law in Chambers & Partners.

Alongside this, Natalie is an experienced divorce and children solicitor and advises on the full range of complex family law matters, including divorce and financial remedies matters, and children disputes with cross-border elements.

A staunch advocate for fertility law reform and workplace support, Sutherland co-founded In/Fertility in the City, an initiative which has become a leading platform for raising awareness of infertility in professional life. In her role at IFLG she will also be the firm’s Fertility Officer, a role she has pioneered previously to support employees undergoing fertility treatment.
